Upcoming Math Test

Parents,

Our first math test is this Thursday! Where has the time gone?? While I believe our class is ready for this test, there are some things you can do with your child to help him/her prepare for success on this test.

Give your child made-up problems with ordering and sequencing numbers to 10,000.

Examples:

Ordering-
1. 10,000 > 9,999 > 9,998
2. 3,252 < 3,352 < 3,628

Sequencing-
1. 6,650....6,660....________....6,680
2. _____....3,211....4,211...._______

ANY questions like this will help your child, as they will be on the test. There will be other skills (like place value), but ordering and sequencing seem to be the most difficult for our class. Hope this helps!

Diver of the Week!

Cheers to Fiona for earning our "Diver of the Week" award! Fiona turns her homework and all other assignments in on time and always does her best in class! Great job Fiona!!!

Spelling

Parents,

Another great week has passed and your children never cease to amaze me! Our class Spelling Test average was 94%!!! These results verify to me that your children have been working hard on their spelling words. Great work everyone!

Have a WONDERFUL weekend!

Have a Great Weekend!

Students,

Do you remember talking this week about how different communities communicate with each other? Well, this is one of the ways people stay in touch! Sometimes people use blogs like this one to communicate with each other. If you mention this post on Monday and tell me how it fits into what you learned this week in Social Studies, you will receive a treat from our Treasure Chest!

Your only task this weekend is to HAVE FUN with your family and friends!

Love,

Ms. Bayne

Upcoming Week

What a wonderful first two days we've had! I want to take a moment to talk to you about our upcoming week.

Math- This week, our math lessons will focus primarily on counting to 10,000, place value, comparing and ordering numbers, and finally a wrap up of all we have learned.

Language Arts- We will be reviewing several concepts learned in second grade this week. We will spend a great deal of time analyzing story structures this week. We will also spend some time identifying characters, plot, and settings in stories we read.

Social Studies- This week, we will begin a unit on communities. Our focus this week will be on communities and what makes up a community (citizens, businesses, laws...). We will eventually branch out to discovering communities throughout our nation.

These are just some of the highlights for our upcoming week. Students do NOT have school on Friday so we may not fit all of this into one week; if not, we will continue with these concepts next week.

Also, I have promised several of you that I will post pictures from our class on our blog and I still intend to do so. I am just waiting for ALL parent media consent forms to be returned. Once I have those forms, I will post pictures. :)
